TabPilot Releases Self Service App Install for Teachers and Students
July 19, 2017 (Atlanta, GA) — Today TabPilot releases an update to its education-centric mobile device management system that offers self-service options for both teachers and students.
With the release of TabPilot 6.4, TabPilot shows how MDM features can be customized to meet the specific needs of schools. While self-service app installations are not new to MDM systems in general, the school-specific approach in TabPilot is unique.
TabPilot offers the ability to assign or create for students a list of recommended apps that only install when selected by students from their own devices. This helps save space on student devices by not force installing apps that the student may not use.
This is ideal for a 1:1 environment, particularly when using devices with more limited storage space. Self-Service app now appear in the TabPilot Resource Locker app on student devices, along with list of other resources such as files and documents for student use.
Unlike other systems, TabPilot also allows administrators to create lists of pre-approved apps for teachers to use for installation to class sets of devices. The apps are ordered through the normal volume purchase channels. This is ideal for shared-use environments where teachers are in charge of small sets of devices because they can install or remove apps from the entire group of devices with just a few clicks.
As with the student self-service, this is particularly important when the devices are low on storage space because the teacher can manage the current set of installed apps without the need for help from the IT department. Both types of self-service are available immediately to all users of TabPilot MDM for schools.
